Tacoma, WA - Cienfuegos: it's official!

Agreement for the Establishment of A Sister City Relationship, 3/22/01

Tacoma, WA and Cienfuegos
Sister Cities

Tacoma, WA - Cienfuegos: it's official!

The USCSCA family would like to extend its sincere congratulations to our newest sister city, Tacoma, Washington, and Cienfuegos, in the Cienfuegos province. Please read the report of their twenty-two member delegation to Cienfuegos that participated in the ceremonies. We know that this agreement is just the beginning of a lifelong relationship between these communities which will enrich the lives of everyone involved. Way to go Tacoma-Cienfuegos!

Please, see the text of the resolution signed on March 22nd, 2001 in Cienfuegos, Cuba by the Tacoma delegation, led by council member Bill Evans (representing our Mayor) and the Mayor of Cienfuegos, Lic. Reemberto de la Hoz.

This ceremony followed the resolution approved by our city council back on September 12th 2000 in which Tacoma adopted Cienfuegos as the 10th sister city. So, we have signed agreements both in Cuba and Tacoma and we are officially the sister city of the city of Cienfuegos.

Our delegation included 22 members. They spent a week in Cuba and had a very full schedule in Cienfuegos. The event was publicized in the national media in Cuba, radio, TV and Granma, as well as in the local media in Cienfuegos.

We are now also trying to get other cities in the area to join us in the province of Cienfuegos.

In unity,

Marisela Fleites-Lear
Chair
Tacoma-Cienfuegos Sister City Committee.

Sincerely,

Lisa Valanti
President
